Ashy Balayage Hair Color

Ashy hair color has cool tones that help soften warmth. Most people think of silver or white blonde, but you can have ash tones in darker blonde and brunette hair, too.

If your hair is already light blonde, getting there may be fairly straightforward. That doesn’t mean silver is automatically easy. What’s already on your hair matters, and so does its condition.

Darker hair can take several sessions to get light enough. With balayage, we can keep your darker base and cool down the lighter pieces. Sometimes that’s all you need.

Who Can Wear It?

You don’t need perfect skin to have ashy hair. You need a shade that works with you.

Very silver hair can look great on one person and wash out another. Sometimes I’ll keep a little warmth around the face or suggest a softer ash instead. We’ll look at that together before we start.

Can You Do It at Home?

I wouldn’t.

It’s one thing to put a glaze over your hair. Lightening it enough for an icy blonde, then getting the tone right, is another job. An ash color won’t turn dark hair silver just because the picture on the box looks good.

If your hair needs lightening, book highlights or balayage. Let’s figure out what it will take before you end up trying to fix it.

What Makeup Complements This Color?

A little blush or a brighter lipstick can look good with icy hair. Pink, red, or coral will bring some warmth to your face.

But if you don’t wear makeup, tell me. I want your hair to look good on you on a regular Tuesday, too.

Maintaining Ashy Hair Color

Ash tones fade, and warmth can start showing through again. Shampoo helps, but it won’t keep your toner there forever.

For blonde hair, I may recommend Davines Heart of Glass shampoo. It uses jagua blue extract to help balance unwanted warm tones. You don’t need to go crazy with purple shampoo; use what suits your color and follow the directions.

Keep your hair conditioned and go easy on the heat. You may need a toner between highlighting appointments, even when your roots still look good.

Warm Balayage Hair Color

Caramel is one of the most requested warm shades, and for good reason. Warm tones can brighten the face and make highlights look richer. Gold, honey, and copper catch the light differently than ashier shades, so the hair can appear brighter without needing to go any lighter.

You may already have highlights you paid a lot for and don’t want to lose. If you like the placement but want something a little deeper and warmer, a toner may be enough. We can work with what’s already there instead of starting over. It’s a good way to take your balayage into fall without making a whole production of it.

So, Who Can Wear It?

There aren’t many rules here. Warm hair color works on a lot of people, but honey blonde, caramel, and copper don’t all do the same thing. I’ll look at your skin tone and the color you already have before we decide. Sometimes a little warmth is plenty; sometimes you want the copper to actually look copper.

How Light or Dark Should You Go?

Warm tones work from light blonde through deep brunette. Even very dark hair can have warm dimension, although adding lighter pieces still means lightening the hair.

You don’t have to go blonde. A few caramel highlights through brown hair can make a noticeable difference while keeping the depth you like.

Maintaining the Warm Look

If we’ve put gold into your hair on purpose, purple shampoo may work against what we just did. Use a shampoo suited to your color, such as Davines MINU Shampoo, and keep conditioning regularly. Warm color still needs care, especially if the hair underneath has been lightened.
