So, you’re working from home. For a lot of us, this transition has certainly come with its fair share of challenges. Maybe you’re learning how to work from home, or having to adjust to having your kids home ALL day. While we all face different obstacles during this time, there’s one skill we’re sure we’ve all had to learn – how to use Zoom.
Zoom is now being used for everything, from work meetings, to classes, to “live” entertainment. We’ve all had to battle with bad lighting, cameras, and noisy backgrounds.
A lot of what is happening is out of our control. But one thing that is in our control? How we show up – and specifically, how we show up for our multitude of Zoom meetings.
Below are some of Headbetter Salon's hints to looking flawless on Zoom.
Lots of Light
Even if you curl your locks and line your lashes, none of it will matter if you don’t have good lighting.
Filtered daylight makes everyone look good. If possible, set yourself up in front of a window, keeping the blinds open. When your light source hits you straight on (instead of from above like a tradition ceiling light might) it’s less likely to cause unflattering shadows to appear in your face.
Make Your Facial Features Pop
Now, not to negate what we just said, but while good lighting is an absolute necessity, it can also wash you out. Keep your facial features from disappearing by making them pop! A little make-up goes a long way on Zoom. You can keep it simple with some liner and mascara for your eye and lashes, a bit of blush to pink of your cheeks, and dabbing on a darker lip – like a berry or a red.
Do Your Hair
Nothing says “I have my life together” like a killer hairdo. For a simple, quick-and-easy hairstyle, plug in some hot rollers, pop them in and do your make-up while they set. When you take them out, you’ll have plenty of curl AND volume. Pro tip: take the curlers out at least 30 minutes before your meeting so the curls have a chance to deflate a little.
Wear a Full Outfit
We get it, the temptation to show up to your Zoom meeting in pajama pants is almost too hard to resist. Sure, you could just wear a nice top and sweats on the bottom, the camera only gets your top half, right? Yeah, as long as nothing goes wrong. When working on Zoom, you may have to adjust for a number of reasons – to close a door, to find a better connection, etc., save yourself the embarrassment of having your co-worker (or boss!) see you in pajama pants by just taking the extra step to throw on a pair of slacks. Plus, when you look put together, you feel put together, and that can greatly affect how you show up.
