In order to understand what rules and restrictions Salons and Barbershops are going to need to adhere to, first we need to know who the governing bodies are that have issued new rules, restrictions and timelines.

1. State of California
2. California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology
3. County of Los Angeles
4. City of Los Angeles

Each of these governing bodies has some say in what we are going to have to do to reopen in Los Angeles.

*UPDATE -5/29/2020  Salons, barbershops and other personal grooming businesses have been granted the ability to reopen, under the guidelines in the documents below.

The City Of Los Angeles finally published its guidelines for reopening Salons, Barbershops, Nail salons tattoo shops and other "Close Contact" services. This, along with the CA State Guidelines and the Board of barbering and Cosmetology guidelines is everything we are going to need to prepare for reopening our Salons and Personal Grooming Businesses.

This PDF issued by the CA. Dept. of Public Health  and CAL OSHA  states the new rules and guidelines for Salons, Barber Shops, Nail Salons and other beauty related businesses. It would be a good idea to print it and discuss it with employees or anyone operating inside the Salon. Also, if you are a salon suite owner, independent  contractor 1099 , or self employed hairdressers these rules and everything else listed in this page also applies to you.

The State Board is the most extensive and trusted resource for any Cosmetologists concern for how to properly disinfect and sanitize our workplace and provide a safe environment for clients. Rely on what we learned in beauty school, most of what will be required for combating coronavirus, is standard procedure for a cosmetologist. State Board is ramping up enforcement, do not take these suggestions lightly.
